Helm, Peter : Floating Beauties

FLOATING  BEAUTIES

“Floating Beauties” is the title of a portfolio made by the photographer Peter Helm. It shows colour photographs of water lily leaves and other floating plant parts. Young leaves or old, semi-rotten leaves: all floating in the water. Nothing was arranged, but recorded as it was found. Only the sun and the wind and the waves were used to create the picture.
Leaves or leaves remnants that float in the water, but are brought to light by the sun's rays. And so shots of breathtaking beauty were created.
"Morbid beauty" : this term would describe some of the pictures well. But most of the pictures do not seem melancholic at all, as one might suppose, but they point beyond themselves.
It is unusual for many people to see the light refracting on the leaves or on the water surface. These photographs therefore take the viewer on a journey into another world. It looks like a dreamlike-woven but nevertheless realistic water landscape. They are partly mystical, enigmatic pictures that inspire the imagination.
